Sunday Sustenance

In keeping with the Thanksgiving weekend, I'd like to share some things for which I am thankful:

  • The Word of God, which taught me how to be saved

  • Salvation through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ

  • A church that preaches the Word of God without apology

  • Freedom to attend church and worship God

  • Parents who love the Lord and taught me to love Him too

  • My husband, who demonstrates sacrificial love to me on a daily basis

  • My son, whom I pray will grow up to serve God with his life

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Psalm 103, where the Psalmist lists many of the bountiful mercies of God toward us. He can only come to this conclusion:

"Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name."

What are you thankful for? How has the Lord been working in your heart? I'd love for you to link in or leave a comment and let me know!

Crazy Coupon Capers

I was thinking that I was crazy after I stayed up half the night Wednesday cooking, and then got up Thursday morning so I could be at CVS when the doors opened. What normal people get excited about making a trip to CVS on Thanksgiving day? They had everything in stock that I wanted, though, so I was glad I had gone early. I started out with $18 in ECBs, spent $3.26 out of pocket, and came home with $42.95 in ECBs, for a total profit of $21.69.

If you haven't gotten to do the Black Friday deals yet, you can still do them today. There is a list of all the deals and coupon matchups here.

Well, what awesome deals did you get with your coupons? Did you get in on the Black Friday CVS deals or find any other great deals? Link in or leave a comment and let me know! Please leave a link back here so others can join in on the fun too!

    Sunday Sustenance

    I Samuel 16:7
...man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

I was standing in Wal-Mart sorting through my coupons before I got up to the register, and one of the employees came up behind me and said, "Oh, it's the coupon lady! I remember you!" I don't even remember ever having her as my cashier. But I know people are watching me. I have several cashiers at different stores that I have gotten to know personally, and I'm sure there are plenty others that know who I am even though I don't know them. Being a couponer draws a lot of attention to yourself!

My point with this verse, though, is this: Many people think that they can live, dress, act, etc. however they want. They say, "God looks on the heart, and He knows I love him, so I can do whatever I want on the outside." But people are watching. People that you don't even realize are watching are taking note of your lifestyle, words, and actions. They can't see your heart. All they have to look at is the outside. And if your outside does not reflect Christlikeness, then you are losing the privilege of being a witness for Christ. When others watch you, what do they see? Do they see Christ reflected in you, or are you no different from any of the rest of the world?

How is the Lord working in your heart? I'd love to have you leave a comment or link in and share!

    Free Dr. Pepper on Sunday

Visit Dr. Pepper's website on Sunday, November 23, to claim your coupon for a free 20 oz. Dr. Pepper. Coupons will be available starting 12:01 am and ending 11:59 pm. The coupon will have an expiration date of February 28, 2009. Enjoy!

    Sunday Sustenance

We are having Missions Conference at our church this week. The theme is from Isaiah 52:7...

"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!"

I am scheduled to play the offertory tomorrow, and I'm planning to play "Brighten the Corner Where You Are."

Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do,
    Do not wait to shed your light afar;
To the many duties ever near you now be true,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Just above are clouded skies that you may help to clear,
    Let not narrow self your way debar;
Though into one heart alone may fall your song of cheer,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Here for all your talent you may surely find a need,
    Here reflect the bright and Morning Star;
Even from your humble hand the Bread of Life may feed,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Brighten the corner where you are!
Brighten the corner where you are!
    Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar;
Brighten the corner where you are!

Whether or not we ever move to another country to be a missionary, we must be a shining light for the Lord wherever we are. Every one with whom we come into contact should see Christ shining forth from our actions and our words. And as they see that light, hopefully the opportunity will arise to share more light with them and guide them to the Savior before it's eternally too late.

How has the Lord been working in your heart? I'd love for you to leave a comment or link in and share!

    Crazy Coupon Capers

I was hoping to be able to put those Steamfresh coupons to good use before they expired, and I did! They were BOGO at Ingles this week, making them $.89 each. I had 8 of the $.35 coupons which doubled to $.70, making the veggies $.19 a bag! The boxed veggies were BOGO at Harris Teeter this week, making them $.20 a box after coupon. I had more coupons for those, but saved a few since I still have until the end of the year until they expire. If they go BOGO at Ingles they will be a little cheaper. Hopefully I won't regret my decision.

So what great deals did you get with your coupons? Leave a comment or link in and let us know how you did! It would be great if you could leave a link back to this post so other can come join in on the fun too!

My Savings This Week: 3 Drugstores!

I did my usual CVS and Walgreens runs this week, but I also added a Rite Aid deal into the mix too. I've never done Rite Aid deals before, simply because that would be even more time to add to my already rushed shopping day. But I happened to have a little extra time this week when I passed by Rite Aid, and I had all my coupons in the car, and I already knew a specific deal I wanted to try. So...here's the deals:

    CVS:

2 Crest Pro-health (since I found out I could get two more for the monthly deal) = $2 profit
    1 Listerine Cool Blue = $1 profit
4 St. Ives Bodywash (2 had already been claimed for use) = $4 profit
    1 Garnier shampoo = free
    1 L'Oreal anti-wrinkle concentrate = $1 profit
    4 packs Altoids = free
    1 fall wreath = $3.25 on clearance

    Total profit = $4.75

    Walgreens:

8 boxes of cereal = $12; got $4 in Register Rewards

And now for my very first Rite Aid deal:

    1 Febreze fabric refresher; $4.99 -$.50 coupon = $4.49
    4 Cascade detergents; $11.96 - $4.00 in coupons = $7.96
    1 Febreze Air Effects; $2.49 - $1.00 coupon = $1.49
    1 Febreze Noticeables; $5.99 - $1.00 coupon = $4.99
    1 Trident gum; $.50 - $.55 coupon = $.05 overage

I also used a $5/$25 Rite Aid coupon.

My total was $13.88 plus tax, and I will get back a $10 Rite Aid gift card and $4.50 in rebates for a profit of $.62.

For more great savings stories, be sure to stick around for Crazy Coupon Capers, which runs all day Saturday. You can also check out Drugstore Divas at the Centsible Sawyer, and Super Savings Saturday at Money Saving Mom.

    Amazon.com Toy Deal

I know I'm posting a lot of online deals lately, but with Christmas coming up, I'm sure most of you are keeping an eye out for inexpensive gifts. Here's a gift idea for the kiddos that Andrea posted on her blog Mommy Snacks. Right now Amazon is running a promotion on toys. If you buy $25 worth of toys you'll get a 2 year subscription to Cookie magazine, which is a $15 value. But you can opt out of the magazine subscription and request a refund instead. (Details here.) That's $25 worth of toys for just $10! There are also many, many items which qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping, which means that shipping is free for orders over $25. If an item is eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping it will be labeled as such. Go here to start shopping in the toys and games section and get some little people crossed off your Christmas list!

    Customized Mousepads for $2.99 Shipped

ArtsNow has customizable mousepads for $2.99 with free shipping. Use promotion MSPD99 at checkout. I purchased one of these last year, and I was very happy with the quality of it. When you get to the ArtsNow website, you will find the mousepads under the "design your own" tab. This promotion code does not expire until December 31, 2099(!), so you have plenty of time to get in on this deal! If you want it for a Christmas gift, though, I would order right away. I remember mine taking a good while to ship last year.

    CVS Update

The Crest Pro-Health toothpaste that is part of the November monthly deals is actually limit 4 rather than limit 2 as stated in the booklet. Since this is a $1 moneymaker after coupon and ECBs, I was glad to be able to make $2 more than I thought I would. Thanks, Nichole, for sharing the information!

    Sunday Sustenance

My husband and I are singing this song in church tomorrow. I thought I'd share the words with you all.

I would bear the cross of Jesus,
    Gladly would I daily die,
If I might but tell the story
Of His mission from on high.

He has bid me take the gospel,
Tell it out where e'er I go.
Till the world has heard the story
That can save from sin and woe.

Thousands still have never heard it,
Millions do not know His name.
God forbid that I should fail them
    And incur my Master's blame.

    Chorus:

I must spread the glad evangel,
Turning lost ones from their plight,
    Witnessing to every creature,
    Turning sinners to the light.

How has the Lord been working in your heart? I'd love for you to leave a comment or link in and share what the Lord has been teaching you.

    Awesome Deal on Huggies Diapers

Update 11/10 : This deal is no longer available.

If you need size 1-2 diapers, here's a deal you won't want to miss:

Amazon.com has Huggies Snug & Dry diapers for $17.65 for a box of 264 diapers. Shipping is $6.95. That's a good deal in itself, but there's more. If you buy $25 or more in a single order, you get a free subscription to Cookie magazine, which is a $15 value. But you can opt out of the subscription, and get your money refunded instead. (See details about that here.) So, if you buy 2 boxes, that will put your total above $25. Shipping is still $6.95 for both boxes. You'll pay $42.25 for both boxes, and get a $15 refund for the magazine subscription. That comes out to $27.25 for 528 diapers, which is just 5 cents per diaper! If you want to get in on this deal, you'd better hurry before it's gone!

    Crazy Coupon Capers: Triple Coupons

Harris Teeter was having triple coupons this weekend. Every other time I've gone, my total has been exceptionally low (as in $2 and under). I always got anything that gave overage, and then used that to go towards paying for everything else. But since Harris Teeter does not give overage any more, I didn't bother with most of the free stuff since none of it was things I needed or would use. I didn't want to use up my 20 coupon limit on things I didn't need, so I got things that cost a little more. My total was over $10, but almost everything I got was actually on my grocery list, and I would have had to pay full price for them elsewhere.

I started off by getting 3 tubes of toothpaste, a bag of coughdrops, and some toddler toothpaste for my son. The reason for that is that there was a deal for E-Vic members where if you bought $30 worth of certain health and beauty items, you automatically got $10 taken off your order. The $30 was added up before coupons. I already had $17 worth towards the deal, so I wanted to finish it out and then use the $10 credit for my other stuff. The Colgate was free after coupon, the Crest was $.25, the coughdrops were $1.00, and the toddler toothpaste was $1.64. I had actually made money on the first $17 worth because I combined it with a different catalina deal. So for all $30 worth I paid a total of $1.24 and got my $10 credit. After I bought those things I went back in and used the rest of my limit of coupons. I also got some other things that I didn't have coupons for.

1 bag grapes (got left at the store!) = $1.19
    1 bundle celery = $2.49
    Total = $20.13 plus tax
    Minus $10 credit = $10.13 plus tax

I figured up that if I had just gone to Wal-Mart to get what was on my list, the total would have been around $35! So even though my total wasn't as low as it was in the past, I'd still say it was definitely worth it to participate in triple coupons!

How about you? Did you get to participate in triple coupons? If not, I'd still love to see what awesome deals you got with your coupons this week. Link in or leave comment and let me know!

    Free Kirkland Signature Diaper Sample

Click here to request a free sample of Kirkland Signature Supreme diapers, courtesy of Costco. You do not need to be a member to request this sample. I love getting free diaper samples because 1 diaper costs around 20 cents or so. If you saw 2 dimes laying on the ground, you'd pick them up for sure. So go get your free diaper!

    (Thanks, Heather!)

    My CVS and Walgreens Deals

    CVS #1:
I forgot to take a picture of my first trip, but I got 2 packs of Pampers, a gallon of milk, and 10 packs of IceBreakers.

    I used 2 $1.50 Pampers coupons and 5 $1/2 Icebreakers coupons.
I paid with $25 in ECBs and $.49 out of pocket.
I got back $5 ECBs for the Pampers and $5 for the Icebreakers. I used up $15 worth of ECBs, but I was able to get diapers and milk for $.49 cash, so I can't be too unhappy with that.

    CVS #2:
I was in town, so I popped into a different CVS to see if they had the ever-elusive monthly freebies. (I never did get my freebies last month because they were continually out of stock.) I don't really need anymore toothpaste to add to my stash of about 30 tubes or so, but I wanted to get it since it was a small moneymaker. They had a few left, so I got them while the gettin' was good!

    Walgreens:

2 packs of Walgreens diapers, 2 boxes of Celesteial Seasonings tea, 2 Almay mascaras, 2 packs of Wrigley's gum, and 2 packs of Schick razors (I couldn't find the 2nd pack when I took the picture.)

Total: $12.73 - I used my gift card, so $0 out of pocket. I'll get back $7.69 in rebates, which brings the total down to $5.04 for all this. I already tried out the diapers since I've never used a store brand before. I am more than happy with them (especially for the price!) and I may go back and get some more tomorrow before the sale ends.
