Décor on a Dime: Fall mantel (Pottery Barn style)

image

I browsed through a Pottery Barn store a few weekends ago while shopping.  I think I might have literally squealed with delight at some of their fall displays.  They were gorgeous!
There were fall leaves, pumpkins, gourds, candles, and fall colors everywhere!  No, I didn’t buy anything but I DID come home with lots of ideas and inspiration! :)

Like bunches of fall leaf branches sticking out of containers – gorgeous!
image
Fall wreaths layered on top of mirrors on mantels, and so much more!   And so much more!  (Check out your local Pottery Barn store for some inspiration!)
image
I had already decorated my fall mantel the same way that I had done for the last few years.  But now I had a new vision!  I was determined to use mostly things that I already had and just add in a few things I planned on making anyway.
First was the fall leaves cascading out of a container!  I love the way this came out.  I bought 2 sprays of fall leaves, 1 spray of pinecones on a stick, and 1 wheat looking spray at Hobby Lobby on sale 50% off.  I grabbed my yard sale-find metal container (it used to be a hideous bright purple, but now is beautiful oil rubbed bronze) and some scraps of floral foam.  Then I just stuck the all the sprays in the foam, tweaked them here and there for literally like 2 minutes and this is what I got.  I wanted the natural “I just picked these out of the yard and stuffed them in this container” look. :)  Love it!
image
Then was the wreath.  I had seen a wreath all wrapped in burlap at Michael’s and wanted to recreate it.  I used a Dollar store foam wreath and found burlap garland at Michael’s for about $2.00 after coupon to wrap around the wreath.  Then I dug some leftover fall stems out of my stash and poked them into the wreath through the burlap.
image
I found the metal candlesticks at a yard sale this weekend for $3.00.  Everything else I already had in my fall décor bins or use around the house all the time (like the clock that I got from Kirkland’s months ago.)
image
I love my fall mantel this year!
I think it is very “Pottery Barn-ish” and it fits in my living room perfectly. I am also really enjoying fall this year especially now that the weather here in GA is actually feeling more like fall. :)
If you want some more fall inspiration, check out these parties I am linking to - The Nester’s fall mantel party and Julia’s fall decorating party at Hooked on Houses.

Fall wreath inspiration

I have been seeing Fall wreaths pop up EVERYWHERE on blogland so I thought I would share some of my favorites with you!

I will be sharing the fall wreaths around my house later!

Copycat of Martha’s corn husk wreath from House of Hepworths.  Super cute and inexpensive!

DSCN5616

Wreath made with real fall leaves from Wild Ink.  This is so pretty but since it is still in 80’s and 90’s here in GA there aren’t many leaves on the ground yet!

image

Bright fall wreath with a sign from Johnson Manorisms.  I never think of adding things like a sign to my wreath but I now I want to go add one to my wreath!

Magnolia wreath from Pretty Handy Girl.  Love the magnolia leaves tucked in her premade white berry wreath!

image

Dollar store wreath from House of Hepworths.  I am loving that you can make beautiful things from the Dollar Store!

DSCN5281

This wreath made with shimmery spray painted leaves from Frugal with a Flourish.  Now I want to go spray paint some leaves and maybe some pumpkins while I am at it! :)

Which one are you going to make? :)

Décor on a Dime: Pumpkin topiary + link up your fall projects!

100_4590The wait is over!  Thanks for patiently waiting for tutorial on the pumpkin topiary that you saw on my table in my eat-in kitchen redo.  Here it is! :)

    100_4576

I first saw this idea on a topiary that my mother-in-law has had on her table for the last few years (she bought hers at Garden Ridge years ago.)  I always loved hers and this year I was determined to make my own.

Here are the materials I bought, but I didn’t end up using all of them on this project.  The two leaf garlands came from the dollar tree but I only ended up using the top one on the pumpkins.  The white bucket was in my yard sale stash and it got a new coat of paint (in Oil Rubbed Bronze)  The pumpkins came from Michael’s.  I had a hard time finding three different sizes that all matched, but I actually ended up really liking the contrast in the middle pumpkin against the other two pumpkins once I got it made.  I also ended up using only about half of the picks.

    pmpkn 3

Close up pictures of the pumpkins and container.  The pumpkins were the most expensive part.  But they were on sale for 40% off and I had 15% off your total purchase at Michael’s so I ended up paying less than $10 for all of them.

    100_4362

I removed all the stems.  I liked the stem from the middle pumpkin the best, so I glued it on to the top pumpkin.  I hot glued the pumpkins together and to the top of the container.

    100_4364

I stripped the leaves off the garland and stripped apart the picks.  Then I hot glued them to fill in around at the base and in between each pumpkin until I liked the way it looked.pmpkn 4

And here it sits on my kitchen table as my fall centerpiece!

         100_4589

I had not seen anything like this in the stores until I saw this one at Kirkland’s this year.  Their price $24.99!  I guarantee I made mine for half that price (and I think I like mine better too! :)

Décor on a Dime: My new favorite wreath!

I posted pictures of this wreath in my eat-in kitchen redo and left you in suspense of what it was made of other than supplies from the dollar store and the grocery store.

Some of you commented and said that you thought it was made of coffee filters and…… you are RIGHT! :)

I saw the idea on The Little Brown House and loved it!

I bought a foam wreath from Dollar Tree and a pack of 200 brown coffee filters from Publix for $0.79.

    100_4516

Most of the tutorials that I read said to use floral pins but they were about $4 for less than 100 and I needed something cheaper!  Hmmm…how about hot glue?  It worked perfectly!

There isn’t really any wrong or right away to go about this – just dab a dot of glue on the wreath and then crinkle the middle of the coffee filter a little and attach to the glue.  Add more glue if you need and keep adding coffee filters to fill in all the spaces.  I left the back of the wreath plain so it would lay flat against the wall.

Attach a bow if you wish, and a ribbon to hang it with and you are all done!  100_4569

For less than $2 bucks you have an adorable wreath (and a conversation starter too! :)  You could also make one with white coffee filters or dye/paint white coffee filters to whatever color you want.

I think it adds the perfect touch to my eat-in kitchen!

I have 1/2 of the package of coffee filters left, so I think another wreath is in store to hang in front of a mirror in my dining room. :)

Come back tomorrow when I will share the tutorial on how I made my pumpkin topiary that you see on the table.  And I will also be having a link up party for everyone to link up their fall décor!
