Sunday Sustenance

Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God

This world of couponing and deal hunting does something to me if I am not careful. It clouds my mind with all sorts of trivial things. Something is wrong when I'm trying to fall asleep, and my mind is spinning with thoughts of CVS and Walgreens scenarios, shopping lists, and grocery store ads. What I think about molds who I am. If I constantly think about earthly things, then I will live for the things of this earth. How can I keep my thoughts on the things that matter? Only by spending time in God's Word - by being still. I need to block out the distractions of this life and focus on my wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. Is there anything wrong with finding good deals and using coupons? Of course not. But when those things become a distraction rather than a tool for using our finances wisely, they become sinful. If our minds are so filled with those things that God starts to be crowded out, we need to take a step back, be still, and turn our focus back to where it needs to be. What about you? Are you taking the time to be still, or are you letting things of this world take over your thoughts?

  2. What a great reminder. Sometimes I get so caught up in the "deal hunting" mode that I neglect the things that really matter. For instance, I have been known to drag my tired kids to Walgreen's at 9:00 pm just to use a $5/20 purchase coupon before it expires--when there isn't anything that I really need. Thanks for the great reminder

  3. Thank you for sharing your heart. I have only been "couponing" since May, and have felt obsessed by it at times, it seems so exciting! But I have found I am lacking in what really matters, planning meals and other household duties , so I know I need to keep it in perspective and thank God for the blessing He's given me thru couponing!
