Thrifty Thursday: 8 great finds for $10.50

It was Saturday, the day before we were to leave for vacation.  And I had a wedding cake (that I had finished the night before) sitting on my counter that needed to be delivered at noon.  BUT, it was Saturday which means YARD SALE DAY! :)  And I missed going to yard sales the previous Saturday because I had to work, I would be out of town the next Saturday, and the Saturday after that I would be busy delivering another wedding and groom’s cake so I would basically miss a MONTH of yardsales! :(

So what is a thrifty, yardsale-loving girl like me to do?

Head out to my favorite parking lot yard sale promising to just take a quick look, of course!

It seems the days you “almost don’t stop” is the days you come away with the greatest treasures! 

Here is what I found:

You can’t really tell in this picture but this a large frame (like 16x20 or more!)  And it only cost 50¢!!   I was just interested in the shape and frame.  The frame will probably go white and the center transformed into a chalkboard. :)

There is one seller that I always stop at - she sells everything in her space for 25¢!  So everything below cost me $1.00 (25¢ each!)

The mini lampshade is the perfect fit for a little Goodwill lamp I bought a while back.  The glass frame is a a lead crystal frame in perfect condition – could not believe this was only 25¢!  The white picket fence stack actually makes a small planter type box and just needs to be nailed or glued back together.  And I liked the details of the frame although it will soon be spray painted white!

I loved this white, chippy wall hanging thingy! ;)  It opens up almost like a birdcage.  I would like to use it outside on the my front porch, but we will see where it ends up.

She was asking $8.00, but took $4.00 for it!  .

I had also been eyeing some door pocket hangers at Hobby Lobby and Michaels, but couldn’t get past the price tag of $12-20.  So I snatched this one up at $2.00!  Now I just need to figure out how to make a pretty arrangement for my door – maybe an end of summer/pre-fall arrangement?

And last of all, I knew when I saw this large ceramic leaf it was PartyLite.  I have a set of 3 small leaves just like this from PartyLite and this large leaf matches perfectly!  She was asking $5, but took $3.  (It would have cost $29-$39 new.)  I am thinking a large pillar candle surrounded with a candle ring of leaves/berries on it for fall . I love fall!

My vacation and wedding cake Saturday is done, so this Saturday I am free to go yard sale and flea market shopping again – yay!  Will you join me and shop some yard sales in your area?  You never know what you will find! :)

Secondhand deals: crystal tree, shower hooks, picture frame for $4.21

I was itching to get out and do some thrift/yard sale shopping last week. :)  I hadn’t been to Goodwill, my favorite parking lot yard sale, or flea market since before Thanksgiving.  I kept imagining all the great deals I was missing!  :)

It was very cold, but I was ready to shop! 

Here’s what I found:

I found this white picture frame at the flea market and it looks brand new!  Love the huge chunky frame!  You already saw how I put this to use in my reorganized kitchen.

See the price tag on the back - $19.99.  I paid $2.00 – 90% savings! :)

Loved this little crystal tree – it was a $1.  And it already has a home on my winter mantel (post coming next week.)

Found this set of shower hook rings at Goodwill for $1.21!  I have never seen shower hooks there before, but they had a ton this time.  They will probably get a coat of spray paint and will await me to finish my re-do of our master bath. :)

With everyone cleaning out their closets for the new year and doing some pre- spring-cleaning, Goodwill should be bursting with good deals!

My secondhand finds of the week

I made my weekly trip to Goodwill last week and found 2 neat decor items.  Then I went went thrifting, flea marketing, and yardsaling on Saturday and found a few more things. :)

This is what I found:

 

• the sailboat was $1.59 at Goodwill and will go PERFECT in my nautical bathroom (that I am so procrastinating on finishing, but I will get DONE SOON!)
• the candlestick was $1.50 at the flea market and will receive a new coat of paint and join it’s long lost brothers on my hearth :)
• the urn was $2.00 at a yardsale (had a price tag of $14.99 on the bottom) and has already received a coat of ORB (Oil Rubbed Bronze) spray paint and is patiently waiting for me to finish my topiary to complete it
• the BRAND NEW, in-the-box snowmen salt and pepper shakers were from a yardsale for $1.00 and will be re-gifted for Christmas (shhhhh…! :)
• the white urn with the ivy (that has seen better days!) was $1.61 at Goodwill

My secondhand deals of the week!

I actually was out early on Saturday morning and decided I would stop some yard sales on my way to my destination.  I got some great home decor items! 

Here is what I found:

 A very large beveled mirror! 

The picture does not do it justice – I love the detail on the frame and the bevel in the mirror.  I just don’t love the color but nothing that a little spray paint can’t change! 

Paid $10  (I walked through a local antique store after buying this and saw many mirrors in there like this one for $50 and up!)

A square decorative wall hanging.

This goes perfect in my bedroom (which is currently getting a mini-makeover, more on that later :)

2 tall candlesticks

I had been looking for tall candlesticks to go on the floor by my fireplace.  I saw some at Kohl’s that were $49.99 EACH!  Whew – too much for me!

These still have tags on the bottom from PartyLite!  (Partylite is a home decor party line like Home Interiors focusing on candles.)  In other words, they were not cheap!

She was asking $10.00 for one but said she had another one that had gotten broken.  I looked at the broken one and realized I could glue it and no one would ever know.  So, she let me have both of them for $10!

Don’t worry, this has already been transformed with my friend, Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint!  (And I am trying some antique gold Rub n Buff to bring out the design – more on that later.)

Paid $0.50!  (Plan to use this as the base for my 2 or 3 ball Ballard topiary knockoff!)

Secondhand Steals and Deals: Great Goodwill trip!

I have been trying to make a trip to Goodwill once a week since the first of the year.  I am still learning to see things and imagine them transformed with spray paint, etc. so the first few trips were not very profitable as I wasn’t sure what I was looking for.  I have found quite a few glass cylinders to add to my collections so I can make Sarah @ Thrifty Decor Chick’s dining room centerpiece. 

But I am slowly learning to imagine a finished product and found some great things this week!  (Our Goodwill store seems to have much higher prices than I see on other decor blogs – I NEVER see things for $0.25 at our Goodwill!  So my prices might be higher than what you would be able to find in our area.) 

I found:

a rectangle mirror – $3.93

(thinking of making a miniature version of the mirror centerpiece to go on my coffee table)

a picture frame - $1.91

a glass vase/cylinder for $3.73

(It is Princess House, a brand of crystal I collect.  New it was probably sold in a pair for $39.99 - $49.99)

and a crystal lamp - $9.81 

(The sad thing is that I saw another lamp this exact same design there in January but couldn’t visualize what I would do with it!  So now I have to watch for a second one so that I can do this project from Centsational Girl.)
