I'm Taking the Weekend Off

We're getting ready to go out of town for the weekend, and on top of that, I have been pretty sick these past couple of days. I was going to try to schedule some posts out for you, but to be totally honest, I'm just not up to it. I'll have Crazy Coupon Capers up and ready for you to link your posts in on Saturday, but other than that, I'm just going to take a much needed break. My frail little body cannot handle it right now. I appreciate your patience with me, and I hope I'll be better by the time I get home Sunday evening.

Sunday Sustenance

I John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

I didn't get to do a Valentine themed post last week since my internet was out of commission, so I'm going to make up for it this week!

When we think of Valentine's Day the key word is, of course, "love". But what is love? The Bible tells us that "God is love" (I John 4:16.) And he demonstrated His love by the fact that, even though we are sinners, He sent His only son to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. We can find in Romans 5:7 that it is rare for a man to find it in himself to give his life even for a good person, or someone who seemingly deserves it. But God's love is so great that He gave His Son to die in our place even though we are wicked and undeserving.

You may not look upon yourself as wicked and undeserving of God's love. You may in fact think of yourself as a pretty good person. And indeed by man's standards I would believe you are a pretty good person. If you don't steal or kill, you're generous and kind, and you're honest in your dealings, humans would have to agree that you are a pretty good person. But the problem is that God doesn't judge us by human standards. He judges us by His standards. And His standards tell us that even our righteousnesses, or the good things we do, are in His sight as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6.) Whether we like it or not, the Bible tells us that we "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23.) No matter how good we are, we inevitably fall short of God's standard of holiness. And because the result of sin is separation from God for eternity, we are all doomed.

This is where the love of God takes over. In spite of the fact that we cannot measure up to His standards, He loves us and desires to have fellowship with us both now and for eternity. The only way He can have that fellowship with us is for our sins to be removed. And the only way for them to be removed was for a perfect sacrifice to die in our place and pay the penalty for our sins. That is why Jesus came to earth and became a man. He died in our place, and when we trust in the fact that He paid the penalty for our sins, God will remove them and we can then have fellowship with Him. We can have fellowship with God now and have an abundant life of joy and peace. And we can have fellowship with him for eternity in heaven.

I hope you have trusted in Jesus Christ as your substitute, who paid the penalty for your sin, so you can have fellowship with God. If you have not, I ask you to read more here about how you can know for sure that your sins are forgiven and that you will have eternal life with God in heaven.

Crazy Coupon Capers

I didn't do much shopping this week. (I feel like I say that every week!) It's hard to get out since we only have one vehicle right now, but it's probably good for me. I love shopping, so I'd probably be at it too much if I had the opportunity! I did run into Walgreens one day when we were out and I got the granola bars for free that I told you about here. I love granola bars, and I love free, so I was a happy camper!

What about you? Did you get any good deals with your coupons or have any interesting experiences? Link in or leave a comment and let me know! And although it's not required, I'd love it if you'd leave a link back to this post so others can come join in on the fun too!

Lowe's: $10 off $50 Printable Coupon

Print this coupon to receive $10 off any purchase of $50 or more at Lowe's. I am always on the lookout for these coupons because there are always things that we are needing to buy for the house, and these coupons really shave a big chunk off the home improvement budget. The coupon expires March 2, and can be used online or in-store. You'll have to wait a while for it to load, but it will be worth the wait if you're needing to make a purchase that large.

Walgreens: Physician's Formula "Try Me Free"

Photo by Elite PhotoArt

I was browsing in Walgreens the other day when I spotted peelies for a "Try Me Free" rebate on various Physician's Formula products. The rebates are for 100% Natural Origin Mascara, FaceBrightener and BronzeBrightenener, and Bronze Booster. I have posted the links to the rebate forms; however, the form states that the "Try Me Free" peelie must be mailed in with the rebate form. The peelies are bright pink if you want to look for them. Some of the products also had $2.00 peelies on them, making these a $2.00 moneymaker after coupon and rebate!

Walgreens: Free Nature Valley Granola Bars

This month (yes, month; not week) at Walgreens you will get $3.50 Register Rewards when you purchase 5 boxes of Nature Valley granola bars. I purchased 5 (one got devoured on my way home!) of the small sized boxes found in the candy and snack aisle at $1.19 each and used 5 $.50 coupons from the 1/4 General Mills insert. My total was $3.45, and I got $3.50 Register Rewards.

JC Penney: $5 off $5 or More

When you register for JC Penney's rewards program and enter the promo code 3008, you'll receive a coupon for $5 off any purchase of $5 or more, which can be used in-store or online. You'll be asked for your credit card information, but you can skip that part and still receive the $5 coupon. The credit card information is so that they can track your spending and issue you rewards points for every dollar you spend at JC Penney. I personally do not feel comfortable giving out my credit card information, but if that doesn't bother you and you want to earn rewards points, then you might want to go ahead and fill out that part of the application. I'm just happy with the $5 coupon! If I can find something on clearance for $5, I can get it for free!

Thanks, Cincinnati Cents!

Did Ya Miss Me?

Ever since Friday afternoon, I've been on an involuntary blogging break. My modem decided it wasn't going to work anymore, and I've been waiting on the new one to get here. In the meantime I've had no clue what's been going on in the coupon world. I feel like I have a million things to catch up on. I'm going to be posting quite a few things today (please forgive me if they're old news because they're new to me.) Hopefully I'll be able to get back on track as the week goes on.

Using "Free Product" Coupons Wisely

At any given time I have around 3 or 4 coupons for free products in my coupon binder. I know most people's first reaction when they receive a coupon for a free product is to pick it up the very next time they go to the store. But those coupons can actually be even more valuable than just the value of the free item. Here are some reasons I like to hang on to those coupons until just the right moment:

-Bringing the total up at grocery stores with coupon policies that only let you double when you have a certain amount on your order. For example, one of my stores only lets you double 3 coupons for every $10 on your order. The $10 is calculated before coupons, though. So if there is a really good deal I could get with a doubled coupon, but I don't quite have $10 worth of stuff in my order, I can use a free product coupon to bring my total up.

-$/$$ ($4 off $20, etc.) coupons at CVS or grocery stores. Periodically CVS will email coupons for $4 off a $20 purchase or different grocery stores will have them in their flyers. Those totals are usually calculated before coupons. So, lets say you have $15 worth of groceries in your cart and you have a $4 off $20 coupon to use. You can "buy" a free product worth $5 and then be eligible to use your $/$$ coupon. Your total before coupons would be $20, then subtract $4 from the $/$$, and subtract $5 from your free product coupon, and your total is now $11 (minus any other coupons for anything else in your cart.)

-Other store promotions. For example, we periodaclly get coupons for free glucose monitors in the paper. If you're diabetic and need one, that's a great deal. But it's an even better deal when you wait for CVS to offer $5 Extrabucks when you purchase one. Use your free product coupon to "purchase" a monitor, and you'll get $5 worth of Extrabucks to boot.

For those reasons, I hang onto my free product coupons until one of those moments I listed above or unil it is about to expire. If a coupon is ready to expire and I still haven't needed it for one of the occasions, I will go ahead and use the coupon. If the product is for something I don't need, though, I usually don't even bother getting it because I'd rather not pay the sales tax on something I don't need.

You may be wondering where I obtain products for free coupons. Here are some sources where everyone can obtain free coupons:

-The newspaper coupon inserts. Every so often there will be a coupon for a completely free item. For example, some that we have had recently were: various glucose monitors, Marcal paper towels, Frank's Red Hot Sauce and French's Worcestershire sauce.

-Word-of-Mouth marketing companies like Vocalpoint, SheSpeaks, Pssst, and Kraft First Taste by General Mills These word-of-mouth marketing companies desire ladies to try products and advertise them by word-of-mouth. Because of that, they often send out samples and coupons (including coupons for free products) for you to try out various products.

-Request coupons by mail. Some free coupons that are currently available are: Country Bob's All-Purpose Sauce, Home Made Simple Coupon Booklet (includes a coupon for free Cascade Rinse Agent), 2 Free Boxes of Glucerna Cereal, Free Diet Dr. Pepper.

-Compliments or complaints. On several occassions I have emailed companies just to compliment them on their products and have been pleasantly surprised by free product coupons showing up in my mailbox. One time I emailed Beech-Nut because I had bought some juice that was not sealed inside. They didn't just send me a coupon to replace the product, they sent me a coupon for $5 worth of Beech-Nut food!

Glucerna Cereal: Two Free Boxes

Check out this post on Freebies 4 Mom that tells how you can easily get two free boxes of Glucerna Cereal!

Hallmark Cards: Buy One Get One Free

Update: This coupon is no longer available.

Here's a Buy One Get One Free coupon for Hallmark cards. It expires February 14, and you can use it to get any card up to a $2.50 value.

Sunday Sustenance

I John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us.

Jesus loves me, this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.

Jesus loves me, He Who died
Heavens gates to open wide
He will wash away my sin;
Let His little child come in.

Yes, Jesus loves me;
Yes, Jesus loves me;
Yes, Jesus loves me;
The Bible tells me so.

I have had this song in my head for the past week or so. It is such an amazing thought that Jesus would love me enough to die for my sin. Even though I deserve an eternity in hell, He took my sin upon Him and made a way for my to live in Heaven for eternity. Those are the kinds of thoughts I love to dwell on!

How has the Lord worked in your heart this week? I would love to have you leave a comment or send me an email and share what you have been learning!

New E-coupons on Upromise

Have you loaded this month's e-coupons onto your Upromise account yet? I just did, and here are some highlights:

Gold Bond - $1.00; trial sizes can often be gotten free with coupons

Huggies diapers - $1.00 and $1.50; no question as to whether I'll use these

Charmin toilet paper - $.75; who doesn't use this?

Snyder's pretzels - $.50 and $.75; I get these free when my grocery store triples coupons

What is Upromise and what are E-coupons?

Upromise helps you earn money by doing things you already do! Any money you earn is put into your Upromise account. You can then decide if you'd like to place it in a 529 account to pay for college expenses or if you'd like to receive a check.

Here's how to earn:

Shop online:
If you shop online through UPromise, you can earn between 1 and 25 percent back on all purchases you make.

Eat at participating restaurants:
"Get up to 8% back from more than 8,000 restaurants as a Preferred Diner when you pay with a registered credit or debit card." I prefer not to give out my credit and debit card information, so I'm not using this option, but if you feel comfortable with it, that's quite a bit more that you can earn.

Shop at grocery and drug stores :
Register your grocery store and drug store loyalty cards, and you will get 1-3% back on thousands of eligible items. All you have to do is make sure to scan your card at the store, and the money from any eligible items you bought will automatically be added to your UPromise account.

Use Coupons:
E-coupons, that is. Every month UPromise adds new coupons to their e-coupons site. Select the coupons you wish to use, and when you purchase those items, the value of the coupon will be added to your UPromise account. E-coupons will not affect your ability to use paper manufacturer's coupons either.

Invite Family and Friends:
If Grandma and Grandpa want to help with their precious grandkids' college bills, all they need to do is register with UPromise. They can then choose to have all their earnings go directly into your account. Just by adding one more person onto your account, you'll earn basically double what you would by yourself. If you get more people involved, that's even better!
