"Un-Frugal" Product Review

It's Frugal Friday at Biblical Womanhood, and I thought I'd share a product that I found to be "un-frugal." A couple months ago I was in need of some laundry stain remover. I used to buy it at Big Lots for about $2.00 (before I discovered I could probably find a way to get it free at CVS). I had a coupon for Zout, though, so I thought I'd check the price and see if I could get it cheaper than the Big Lots kind. It came out to about the same price as the Big Lots kind, so I thought I might as well give it a try. I quickly discovered that I did not get my money's worth. It takes stains out just fine, but it has only one setting: JET STREAM. If I had an area of any substantial size that I needed to treat, I had to use a LOT of sprays to cover the whole area. After about a week of normal use, the bottle was about half gone. Normal use for us is not much. I don't think I will be buying the Zout brand any more (unless it costs about a dime or less) :). Has anybody else tried it? I'd like to know what you thought of it.
Be sure to check out Frugal Friday for lots of great ideas!

  1. Zout is my ultimate favorite stain remover. Let me give you a tip...

If you have a large area, spray a small puddle in the middle, then rub the piece together. A little Zout goes a LONG way if you use it right. Also, you can use the tip of the sprayer to scrub on the tougher stains. I used to do this a lot when I was younger and had...um...feminine accidents.

Let me put it this way, I have a bottle of Zout in my house, and a 10 year old boy. The bottle of Zout has lasted me a year ;)

  2. Thanks for your comment, Sadie! Either you have a really clean 10 year old or you really have learned to make your Zout go farther!

  3. I've never tried this. But if I were you, I'd write to the manufactuer. A real snail-mail letter telling them the problem you had, not an e-mail. You might even get a coupon for a free one, and it will help them improve the way the product is packaged!

  4. I use Zout but not in the spray. It is also my favorite for getting stains out. I get the liquid and a bottle will last about 9 months because you only have to use a very small amount. If you like the way it cleans you may want to give it a try.
