Thrifty Thursday: 8 great finds for $10.50

It was Saturday, the day before we were to leave for vacation.  And I had a wedding cake (that I had finished the night before) sitting on my counter that needed to be delivered at noon.  BUT, it was Saturday which means YARD SALE DAY! :)  And I missed going to yard sales the previous Saturday because I had to work, I would be out of town the next Saturday, and the Saturday after that I would be busy delivering another wedding and groom’s cake so I would basically miss a MONTH of yardsales! :(

So what is a thrifty, yardsale-loving girl like me to do?

Head out to my favorite parking lot yard sale promising to just take a quick look, of course!

It seems the days you “almost don’t stop” is the days you come away with the greatest treasures! 

Here is what I found:

You can’t really tell in this picture but this a large frame (like 16x20 or more!)  And it only cost 50¢!!   I was just interested in the shape and frame.  The frame will probably go white and the center transformed into a chalkboard. :)

There is one seller that I always stop at - she sells everything in her space for 25¢!  So everything below cost me $1.00 (25¢ each!)

The mini lampshade is the perfect fit for a little Goodwill lamp I bought a while back.  The glass frame is a a lead crystal frame in perfect condition – could not believe this was only 25¢!  The white picket fence stack actually makes a small planter type box and just needs to be nailed or glued back together.  And I liked the details of the frame although it will soon be spray painted white!

I loved this white, chippy wall hanging thingy! ;)  It opens up almost like a birdcage.  I would like to use it outside on the my front porch, but we will see where it ends up.

She was asking $8.00, but took $4.00 for it!  .

I had also been eyeing some door pocket hangers at Hobby Lobby and Michaels, but couldn’t get past the price tag of $12-20.  So I snatched this one up at $2.00!  Now I just need to figure out how to make a pretty arrangement for my door – maybe an end of summer/pre-fall arrangement?

And last of all, I knew when I saw this large ceramic leaf it was PartyLite.  I have a set of 3 small leaves just like this from PartyLite and this large leaf matches perfectly!  She was asking $5, but took $3.  (It would have cost $29-$39 new.)  I am thinking a large pillar candle surrounded with a candle ring of leaves/berries on it for fall . I love fall!

My vacation and wedding cake Saturday is done, so this Saturday I am free to go yard sale and flea market shopping again – yay!  Will you join me and shop some yard sales in your area?  You never know what you will find! :)

Thrifty Thursday - fun vintage looking finds!

Two Saturdays ago, I went to my favorite parking lot yard sale and actually sold stuff.  Came home with 75% of my stuff gone and $150 richer! :)  I love both sides of yard sales… BUYING and SELLING. :)

But in between customers, I had a chance to do some shopping myself.  :)  And I found some great deals!

I had really been wanting a huge iron star, but they sell for $20 or more even with coupons at Hobby Lobby. So I was super happy when I scored this one for $6! :)  It already has a home on my deck, which I will be sharing soon.

The birdcage was $2.00 and the mirror/window thing was $2.00.  Still working on a place for those but I have a few ideas in mind.

Thrifty Thursday: Fun yardsale finds

Here’s some fun stuff I found while yardsaling last week. 

The metal wall hangings were $3 for the pair.  (Love metal wall hangings!  These might find a home on my deck or maybe even my front porch.)

The large plaster wall hanging has a Kirkland’s sticker for $9.99 on the back, but I paid $1.00!

 

The white (of course!) wood shelf was $1.00 and already has a home on a dark brown wall in my living room.  It goes perfect and I love the detailed carvings!  I will have to show you soon.

The white decorative finial and decor ball were $0.50 each.  The finial will probably get a paint job – either white (since it is sort of yellowed looking) or ORB – what do you think?

Last weekend there were yardsales EVERYWHERE!  I typically just stick to my favorite multi-seller, parking lot yardsale and a quick stop at the flea market, but I could have shopped till I dropped last weekend!

Thrifty Thursday: I reallllly love white!

So, I thought I had enough white pots … until I came across these at my favorite parking lot yardsale! :)

She had a $2.00 price tag on each piece but I offered her $4 for all 3 – she willingly obliged!

I have got to find more fillers to put in my white containers! :)  I think a trip to IKEA might be in order, since I love their little artificial plants.

Thrifty Thursday: my new favorite color!

A few Saturdays ago, I had a lot to do and just wasn’t all that inspired to head out “thrifting” at some of my favorite Saturday spots.  BUT, I had to run out to do an errand or two so decided to stop anyways.  It seems like the days you don’t really plan on going or finding anything great is the day you find a ton of treasures!!

First I stopped at the flea market.  There was a booth that they were cleaning out and I spied these old window panes.  I asked if I could have them and they said “Sure, we were  just going to haul them out to the trash!”

They had been out in the weather, so I will have to see once I get them cleaned up if they all will be salvageable or not, but for FREE, I will take them!

Then I also happened upon this chandelier.  I bargained the seller down from $10 to $7 and I hope that it will become my new kitchen light (to replace a horrible fluorescent light!)  And bonus, it is already a nice brown/bronze color so I save myself a step in painting it ORB (oil-rubbed bronze).

When I set out not-really-shopping, I had already decided IF I found anything, I wanted to find things in my new favorite color – WHITE!! :) 

I have been obsessed with all thing white recently. I don’t know if it is because white looks good with pretty much any other color, or it is perfect for spring, or what… but I love white accessories!

All of the things below cost $6.00.  I already showed you what I did with the 50¢ white plate.

I love these little white containers!  Left to right, I paid - $2.50, 50¢, 75¢, 75¢.  You can see what I am using the pedestal white bowl for in this post.

Did I mention I love pairing white with green? :)

Thrifty Thursday: 2 ceramic urns for $2.42!

I have been so busy with cakes, yard work, and spring cleaning that my Goodwill trips have been less frequent.  Although I have been trying to hit yard sales on Saturday when I am out.

I did pop into Value Village last week and found these great urns!  They are heavy ceramic urns that have a really neat aged look!

The larger one was priced $2.02.

The smaller one was priced $1.51.  BUT it had a chip out of it (which I knew I could just make be in the back of wherever I displayed it).  So I found an employee and asked could they adjust the price because of the crack.  (I have never tried this at Goodwill, they would probably say “NO”!  But I figured I would give it a try here.)

She came back out and said, “Do you want it for 40¢?” 

“Ummm.. yes, I will take it! :)”

So I paid $2.42 for both! 

So, it just pays to ask if the price can be adjusted (at least at Value Village!)  Have you ever gotten anything price adjusted at a thrift store because it was defective?

I already knew what I planned to do with them so stay tuned for I did!

Thrifty Thursday: cheap light fixture!

No, I do not plan on putting that brassy light fixture in my house! :) Not without a SERIOUS makeover!

Check out this Pottery Barn light fixture for $269.  Look similar?  That’s what I was thinking too! :)

And that brass disappeared as soon as I got a chance to get it outside to spray paint.

Still trying to decide if I should leave the glass out or put it back in.  Now I just need to get it installed!

Thrifty Thursday – LOTS of great finds… décor, art, linens, and more!

I had a great week thrifting last week! I got lots of deals! That is the way secondhand shopping happens. Some weeks you hit the jackpot, and some weeks you come home empty-handed! :) By the way, I TRY to pop in Goodwill once a week near where I work and the new Value Village every other week. And if I have time and am out on Saturday, I will go to another Goodwill, Value Village, the flea market, and the parking lot yard sale.

Here’s my finds:

Wicker/wire basket - $1.51 (I am thinking centerpiece on a table for spring filled with moss covered balls, grasses??)

I loved this piece of art I found! It is bigger than it looks – 18x18 inches.

I paid $10.91!  More than I wanted but still a much better deal than $49.99.  And it is hang on the wall ready – no spray paint fix needed! :)

Value Village trip

They are quickly becoming a great place to find super cheap linens!



I found this set of 4 ivory crocheted napkins for $0.49 each! They are brand new!

 
And I also found these ivory damask napkins that are BRAND NEW with Charter Club (from Macy’s) tags still on them!  And there were 10 of them!  They were $0.69 each BUT 50% OFF SO ONLY $0.35 EACH!  I know have a great set of napkins when I host a formal dinner. :)

And to top it all off, I stopped at the Flea Market too! :) I REALLY love the flea market. Yes, it can be a little dirty but the prices are soooo much better than Goodwill!



I got both of these for $1.00 each! At Goodwill they would be AT LEAST $2.52 each!

 
This is HEAVY!  and it is also chipped so will need a spray paint makeover! :)  As much as I LOVE my ORB (Oil Rubbed Bronze) spray paint, I have a serious obsession with all things white and chippy right now.  So this will probably go white with a distressed look. 
 
The “laughter” sign has some nicks too and was actually bought to repurpose as well!  It is completely finished with a bevelved edge and hangar on the back.  I plan to paint it white (with distressed edges of course!) and use it as a base for one of those vinyl Dollar Tree sayings.

 
 
It has a price tag on the back from Marshalls – originally $9.99, clearanced for $7.50.  I like $1.00 much better!
 
So there you go! Lots of finds! Glad it is going to be super warm this weekend because I have lots of spray painting to do!

Here’s what I found while “thrifting” last week.  I had heard about a new thrift store called “Vallue Village” that opened up, and I popped in on Wednesday at lunch to check it out. It turns out ALL clothes and household linens were 50% OFF on the last Wednesday of the month! 

I found this set of Valentine placemats that were in almost new condition for $.69 each BUT 50% OFF so only $.35 each!  I got the set of 4 for only $1.40!  I popped them in the washing machine when I got home and ironed them when they came out of the dryer and they are as good as new!  (Pictures of my valentine table to come later tonight!)

I also found this beaded purple wreath for $2.02 (not 50% off).  I can’t wait to use it coming up soon in my spring décor!

Thrifty Thursday + link up your finds!

Here is what I found last week at Goodwill!
 
Loved this glass candlestick!  The berries and greenery inside were actually live, so someone must have used this at Christmas and donated it right away!  Craziness!

Because in the back of my mind I was picturing…

the large candlestick pictured below from Pottery Barn! :)

Their cost - $39.50

My cost - $2.92!

Then I found this Home Interiors candlestick for $1.51. 

(And yes, it will be getting a paint job!)

And I saved the best for last.  I had actually had on my list that day to do some shopping for a new shower curtain (or material) for our bathroom that I am getting ready to redo.  I wanted a burgandy fabric with a subtle design. 

Ta-da – what do I find?  A BRAND–NEW, in the package, BURGANDY shower curtain!  I never see shower curtains at Goodwill, much less still in the package!  And I love it!

The price – $4.64!  I probably couldn’t even have bought a 1 yard of material sturdy enough for a shower curtain for that price.
