Décor on a Dime: My final fall wreath

I wrote earlier about my fall wreath dilemma – I had so many ideas and couldn’t decide which one I should do!

I couldn’t get my mind away from this wreath from Pretty Handy Girl.  She added magnolia leaves to a white berry wreath that she had already and I just love the whites and browns!
image(photo courtesy of Pretty Handy Girl)
A friend was so sweet to collect and bring me some magnolia leaves so I knew this was the wreath I had to make!

I could not find a white berry wreath anywhere, nor could I find a swag or garland of white berries.  But then I was browsing through all the Christmas displays at Hobby Lobby and came across these sprays of off-white and gold berries and they were 50% off making them $0.50 each!  I bought 6 of them ($3.00) and headed home to make my wreath.

101_4689

I used a basic grapevine wreath that I had at home…

101_3290

and just tucked the berry sprays around the wreath.  Then I added the magnolia leaves.  I didn’t glue the leaves into the wreath, since I like to reuse my wreaths.  I just tucked the stem of the leaf into the wreath and it is holding up very well!

I added a scrap of burlap for a bow and here it is on my front door!

I really love this wreath!  And the best part is it only cost $3.00 for the berry sprays because I had the wreath and burlap and the leaves were FREE from outside!

I have had many compliments on it already (including the pizza lady the other night!) and I definitely think this wreath will be a repeat for other years.

Oh, and I plan to use the white berry sprays in the grapevine wreath for other seasons.  I will have to see what I can do it to change it out!

I am ready to give you a “fall tour” through my house.  Post coming in the next few days – be ready to link up your fall décor too!

Décor on a Dime: Fall Pinecone wreath + link up your projects!

101_4655
After my fall wreath dilemma, I decided if I could find pinecones, I was going to make a pinecone wreath.  :)  My mother-in-law said she had plenty at her house, so my nieces and I headed over and had fun collecting 2 big bagfuls earlier this week.

They are medium to large size pinecones, so I was not sure how I was going to make them work for a wreath.

But they were FREE! :) I had a light wood wreath (like a grapevine wreath) that I had gotten at Dollar Tree and decided to use that as the base.  I spray painted it brown just in case you could still see it when I got the pinecones attached.
101_4664
I glued, and glued, and glued with my mini hot glue gun!  A couple splinters, hot glue burns, and about 15 mini glue sticks later and it was done!

And I was not in love. :(  It was not exactly what I imagined.  It was bland and very plain.  And you could see some of my hot glue.

I played around with using some craft paints, then decided to lightly spray it with a can of Krylon Metallics Champagne Nouveau that I had.  Then I chose a few pinecones randomly throughout the wreath to spay with dark brown spray paint.
101_4665
Much better!

I still thought it still needed some color so I added in a few twigs of fall berries I had laying around, a bow, and hung it!  It is hanging on the inside of my front door.  (I want something pretty to look at from inside the house, too :)
101_4660
So if you have some pinecones in your yard, send your kids out to collect a big bag!  Then make yourself a wreath and bring a little nature inside this fall!

Total cost: $1.00 for the wreath form from Dollar Tree  +  stuff I already had!  Love cheap pretty décor!
101_4668
By the way, I can’t wait to frost this white for Christmas like the Ballard wreath!  (I think that I might be able to go back and forth and just spray it back brown for fall next year! :)
